We know our philosophy of sourcing ingredients locally is not an innovative one but it is one that we take very seriously. 95% of our produce is indeed sourced in Thanet, a fact we are most proud of. We’re not new to the restaurant industry and have long established relationships with local farmers and producers, most all of whom, like us, are family owned and operated.
FISH
Like us, you may have thought that it’s easy to purchase fresh fish when situated, as we are, so conveniently in one of East Kent’s busiest fishing ports. Not so. The Marine and Fisheries Agency co-ordinates an enforcement programme for monitoring, control and surveillance of all sea fishing activity within British Fishery Limits off the coast of England, including waters off Ramsgate, where we purchase nearly all our fish. In order to legally buy the best possible local fish seasonally, Harveys Fish Market has had to register with the Marine and Fisheries Agency as a buyer of fish from our local boats. This means that supplies are as fresh as is physically possible and importantly we are only purchasing managed, sustainable stocks. Ironically, most of the fish landed at Ramsgate, ends up in markets like Brixham in Devon, Billingsgate London and even France where Ramsgate fishermen can realise a higher |

price for their catches. We have been welcomed by the local fishing community, and particularly Mike and his crew from the Anna Louise, who now have another market on their own doorstep for the fish caught in the waters around Ramsgate.
MEAT
We are proud to purchase most of our meats from JC Rook and sons, a Thanet-based family-owned traditional butchers. JC Rook supply Harveys with meats reared on their own farms from their own herds. Their beef herd is reared on fenland at Hacklinge near Deal and any meats not actually reared by JC Rook are delivered to us with a “passport” indicating the farm where the meat has been reared. Provenance at its best.
Game is essential when in season and is sourced from within Kent from various local shoots. Godmersham estate near Canterbury is a popular hunting ground for Venison and other game which is supplied to Harveys by licensed gamekeepers.
